DSDN 104 - Another sketch idea (After the 500 word)
Here is a key sketch in my development, mainly because it is a simple sphere and this sphere can open up from two point to reveal a complex grid inside. This idea was based on my original idea of simplicity and how simple things can turn out to be complex. So in this sketch the sphere is simple and the complex grid in side will be the complex bit.

DSDN 104 - Sketches with 500 word explaination

Here are a couple of my sketches I’ve done so far. To start
off, my aspect of pattern is the simplicity of a pattern and how a simple shape
can create a complex shape. In the first page on the top left corner, I
was trying to nail the idea of how simplicity can create such an interesting
shape. I started with ideas off my precedents using lines and waves. Then I
came across of the idea of the triangle. Then I thought how I could make this
simple shape turn into something more, something complex and that I couldn’t make
by hand. So then I developed this in my sketches and have created some good
ideas that I will carry on in 3DS Max. Like multiplying this triangle into four
bits and then put them back together to create a diamond shape. Then I sketched
out some stacking methods for these triangles/ diamond shapes and how I could
align them together. I have also though of my 30X30X30 cube to fold out to
create a bigger object and more complex shape.
In my second sketch page (top right corner), I explore more
options of shapes and how they could fold out differently. These sketches represent
simplicity very well having simple shapes and then growing them into complex
forms. Like you can see with my diamond shaped development I have been working
on. Putting diamonds inside diamonds and repeating the process to create more
interesting shapes. Then I came up with an idea about creating forms from
another complex form. So like for example a lot of stacked up diamonds that
formed a box shape. This is handy to me because then it represents something
very simple but then it has a complexity side to it.
In my third sketch page I have more in depth ideas with
distorting a shape to create a form that is more complex than just straight lines.
So like for example turning that diamond sketch into a curved diamond, making
the middle of the diamond smaller at the same time. This got me wondering, what
would happen if I stacked and multiplied these, then distort them even more. I
would get something complex and effective; you can see these in my sketches of
development. Another sketch I have done is the simple circle. Creating that
circle and turning it into a sphere. Then you can open the sphere to have a
complex pattern inside the sphere. I really like this sketch because it shows
how something simple from the outside can be so complex in the inside.
DSDN 104 - Update....
Okay.... so I'm into the idea of simplcity within a pattern. So for example how a square can turn into a cube and how a cube can turn into other 3d forms. So for my sketches I'm going to base it off simple shapes and them iterate them into a 3d model.
DSDN 104 - Textures/materials I could possibly use
I have chosen these materials for 3DS Max because since I'm focusing on simplicity within an image I need to go wit simple colours and simple materials. I have chosen some blue ocean pictures because the ocean is an on going object, it never stops. I like this idea of nothingness aswell which is related to the ocean picture. I have also chosen these other picture for good soild/ concreate materials to work with my model. I chose these because they are the meaning of simplicity and would work well with my concept of simplcity.
DSDN 104 - P3- Chosing an aspect from pattern. (precedents)
I'm chosing how a pattern can be so simple but effective. I like the way how a simple triangle can be repeated to turn into a crazy pattern. Here are my precedents:
I'm going to take some key aspects out of these precedents and development them into sketches that will turn into a 3D model.
Some aspects I like witht these images is the simplicity of the image. Like for example in the rainbow picture they just used one line that was reapeated and changed colour each iteration. Simple but effective.
This is the kind of effect I want, simple but effective and I like the idea of repetitiveness within each image to create a stunning image.
